West Virginia's Canaan Valley has 2 downhill Ski Resorts and a Cross-Country Ski Center
with miles of trails. The Valley is surrounded by the Monogehela National Forest,
including two wilderness areas (Otter Creek, Dolly Sods), the Blackwater River
and Canyon (site of Blackwater Falls), various forks of the Cheat River, several
State Parks, Golf Courses, Horseback Riding, and more hiking and Mountain
biking trails that you could hope to cover in a lifetime. The Valley is great
for fishing and paddling, and rich with wildlife.

The ski resort on the left is Timberline, while on the right are the Canaan Valley ski slopes.
The Valley usually gets at least 100 inches of snow each year
that's 9 feet (about 3 meters)!
Most of it falls in January and February
but December and March can bring lots of snow as well.
The harsh mountain weather makes the surrounding highlands
a unique ecosystem, similar to boreal areas in Alaska.
Dolly Sods Wilderness is just one of the places you
can easily reach from Casa Paradiso.
